Frequently Asked Questions
What is your cancellation policy?
Reservations may be cancelled up to 48 hours before departure for a full refund. If the weather will make a program unsafe or not enjoyable, our team will make the decision about one hour prior to the scheduled departure time. Reservations that are cancelled due to weather will be offered to reschedule or a full refund.
What do you do if the weather is uncooperative?
If the weather will make a program unsafe or not enjoyable (heavy rain, lightning or very high winds) we may decide not to go. The weather on the Shore changes often. We usually make decisions about possible inclement weather one hour prior to the scheduled departure time due to the dynamic nature of our weather patterns. Reservations that are cancelled due to weather will be offered to reschedule or a full refund.
How much experience do I need to have to participate?
Kayaking on our protected waterways is just like a relaxing nature “hike” on the water. The kayaks are big, stable, and safe. No experience is necessary to enjoy any of our guided kayak tours. We begin all of our kayak tours with a paddling clinic to teach you all the skills you need to safely enjoy your time on the water.
For our 1/2 Day and Full Day Tours, please be aware that they are more strenuous than our shorter excursions. Full Day Tours will require a level of effort approximately equal to a brisk walk or jog for up to a couple of hours at a time.
Do I need to be able to swim to participate?
For all of our tour programs we will be wearing Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs). The kayaks that we use are very stable and we make every effort in trip planning to keep you on the water rather than in the water. Most of the time, on our beginner oriented tours we are paddling in water less than 5 feet deep.
For paddleboard tours, it is more likely that you will end up in the water at some point in the tour. Falling in the water is part of the learning process in the sport of paddleboarding.
You do not need to be able to swim to participate in any of our tours, but please inform your guide if you have swimming related concerns or restrictions.
Is there and age limit on your tours?
We do not have a minimum or maximum age limit. We assume you know your children better than we do and can make the decision as to whether a kayak tour is appropriate for them based on your parenting experience. (Same with your parents or grandparents.)
Children 12 and younger will be required to paddle in a tandem kayak with a parent.
What should we bring with us?
We recommend wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing that can get wet, as well as shoes that can be secured to your feet (such as water shoes or sandals with straps). Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are also recommended, as well as a water bottle and any necessary medications. We provide all necessary equipment, including kayaks, paddles, and personal flotation devices. We recommend leaving valuables at home.
